Learn
From a newborn child to our oldest members, we are all growing in faith. On Sunday morning we gather in classrooms; during the week we meet in small groups. Children learn the stories of our faith and discover what it means to be a part of the congregation. We take our faith seriously and hope to equip members with the tools and resources they need to grow in their faith. We work with parents and families to minister to and with all children. Helping each child grow in his or her faith, we provide opportunities for children to learn more about God’s story and their part in it.
CHILDRENAfter the children's message during the service, elementary-aged children leave for our "Bible Tracks" Christian education class. On the first Sunday of each month, children stay in worship for communion.
We also introduce children to service in our community and to having fun as they learn, such as working at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore, the local food pantry, cleaning Sister City Park, enjoying cookouts, swim parties, game nights along with other mission projects. The church provides full scholarships to all children and youth attending Camp Carew, our PC(USA) camp located near Carbondale, IL. |
YOUTHOur church school class for middle and high school students meets concurrently with our 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service.
Confirmation occurs when in seventh or eighth grade. The confirmation process may include baptism for those youth not baptized as infants. At First Presbyterian Church, our youth write a statement of faith that is shared with the Session and read before the congregation on the Sunday of their confirmation. Children and youth participate in worship as acolytes, liturgists, soloists, instrumentalists, greeters, and ushers. Youth are often welcome to participate in our adult mission trips, with parental supervision. The church provides full scholarships to all children and youth attending Camp Carew, our PC(USA) camp located near Carbondale, IL. |
ADULTSLooking to add some depth to your faith? Our adult education provides a safe space to learn more about the Bible, Christian tradition, and our contemporary world. We vary our topics to include everything from Bible studies to contemporary events. The Adult Sunday School meets Sundays at 9:30 a.m. Short-term studies occur periodically through the year at times other than Sunday morning.
Presbyterian Women circles meet for Bible study on the second Tuesday morning (10:00 a.m.) and third Tuesday evening (7:00 p.m.) each month between September and May. |
