Worshipping

Worship with us each Sunday at 10:30 a.m.

Seasonal Worship - Lent

Our mid-week Lenten Soup Suppers and Worship will begin on Wednesday, February 24. Supper begins at 5:45 p.m. and we conclude serving at 6:15 p.m. Worship in our sanctuary begins at 6:30 p.m. and will end at 7:00, followed immediately by our mid-week Lenten study.

Children and Worship

We believe that children best learn how to be disciples of Jesus Christ by participating in the worship of God and service to others. Children are present for the first part of worship on the second through fourth Sundays. After the children's message, they leave for our "Bible Tracks" Christian education classes. On the first Sunday of each month, they stay in worship for communion. Children are encouraged to receive the bread and cup. On fifth Sundays, children remain in worship and take leadership roles in our prayers, offering, songs, and scripture readings.

What to Expect in Our Worship

Inside our century-old building is a congregation where two out of three worshipers have attended less than ten years.  We are a diverse group that includes folks from Cameroon, Sierra Leone and Ghana as well as people who’ve lived in Illinois their whole lives.  Our congregation includes participants from fifteen different denominational backgrounds.  So whatever your life experience or previous church experience, you will find a warm welcome at First Presbyterian Church.

Involvement - We provide a balanced blend of music, thoughtful preaching, praying, sharing, and giving. As a part of this interactive service, we encourage all our church families to consider ushering or greeting, and all church children to consider acolyting.

Music - On Sundays, our church is filled with music. We have a regularly performing adult choir and encourage all church members to consider joining. We also contract instrumental and vocal soloists and ensembles to enrich our common praise of God.

Communion - Communion at our church is open to all baptized believers. All traditions are wlecome to the Lord's table of grace, celebrated on the first Sunday of each month.

Baptism - We offer both infant and adult baptism as a sign of inclusion in God's family, the beginning of a journey of faith.

Childcare - Childcare is available from a paid nursery attendant for all Sunday services. We offer a warm and welcoming nursery for children under the age of four. Parents sign their children in and are provided with pager to take into worship.
