Learning at First Presbyterian Church

Sunday Morning Christian Education for Children (10:30-11:35)

We work as a faith community together to provide lifelong Christian education to support growth in the love, knowledge and service of God.

Our Sunday Christian education program for children is called "Bible Tracks." It meets concurrent with our 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service. Children are with their parents in worship through the Children's Message. They then leave to attend their classes. Children remain in worship for the full service on first Sundays of each month so they may receive commuion.

Adult Sunday School in January and February (9:30 a.m.)

(We meet in the adult classroom on the upper level of the education wing.)

"Who was Jesus and what does he say to us today?" That is the question that our Adult Study will explore. We will be looking at what historians can tell us about Jesus and the context in which he grew up and began his ministry. What does this context say to us today about how we receive and share the good news Jesus brought and brings to our world? Join us in the adult classroom this Sunday to learn more.

Childcare during Adult Sunday School
From birth to age four, our children are cared for by an experienced staff member, Mara Shepherd. Parents can sign their child in and taking a pager with them into worship. Parents or older siblings are also welcome to stay with the child to ease the transition into a new place.

Other Youth and Children's Ministries
Youth Group - A youth group for 7th-12th graders focuses on service projects in the community where youth experience community and learn the importance of serving others.

Confirmation - Confirmation occurs when youth are in seventh or eighth grade. The confirmation process may include baptism for those youth not baptized as infants. At First Presbyterian Church, our youth write a statement of faith that is shared with the Session and read before the congregation on the Sunday of their confirmation.

Vacation Bible School (VBS) - The Christian Education Committee organizes Vacation Bible School each year.

Sunday School Outings - We schedule fellowship opportunities for younger children and their families approximately once each quarter. We have attended theatre performances at the Theatre on the Square, cookouts, swim parties, and mission outings.
